Insecta Mundi

A Peer-Reviewed Journal for Insect and Arthropod Systematics

Insecta Mundi is a journal primarily devoted to insect systematics, but articles can be published on any non-marine arthropods.

Manuscripts considered for publication include, but are not limited to:

  • Descriptions of new taxa
  • Revisions
  • Taxonomic or nomenclatural notes
  • Bibliographies
  • Checklists
  • Catalogs
  • Life histories

For papers describing new taxa, Insecta Mundi provides authors rapid publication so the names may be included in other publications.

From 1985 to 2006, Insecta Mundi was produced with yearly volume numbers and printed on paper quarterly. As of 2007, Insecta Mundi (paper ISSN 0749-6737, CD-ROM ISSN 1942-1362, online ISSN 1942-1354) was published on paper irregularly throughout the year. As manuscripts are completed and published, they are individually, sequentially numbered. There are no longer year-based volume or issue numbers. Further details about our policies and procedures can be found in 2007 Insecta Mundi 0001.

Recent changes in the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature, starting in 2012, allowed Insecta Mundi's open accessible electronic publication to be the form validating each articles publication date. In 2014, manuscript submissions to Insecta Mundi has grown to a volume that we suffered a staffing crisis and had to reorganize our manuscript processing. The primarily difference is that we increased the number of volunteer Editors and changed manuscript submission requirements. Our current editorial team is listed also here.

Ethic Statement

Author Requirements

  • Potential authors must have their manuscript reviewed by two peer reviewers prior to submission.
  • Any submission is required to provide these reviews as well as completed Reviewer Reports and a Submission Contract form.
  • All These forms are available on the Author Instructions page.
  • One author of each submitted manuscript must be a current member of the Center for Systematic Entomology (CSE).
  • Membership is presently $US 40.00.

Publication Model

Insecta Mundi is not in the printing business. Thus, we offer no reprints for sale. Our intent is to publish articles for CSE members and ensure that these articles are distributed, archived, and readily available.

Authors are provided with a PDF file of their article, which can be printed easily by them or at a local print shop. Insecta Mundi has no page charges, no web posting fees, and there is no extra charge for the use of color.

Insecta Mundi is widely distributed and referenced or abstracted by several sources, including the Zoological Record, CAB Abstracts, and others.

Archiving and Access

Printed copies of each issue are deposited in several international libraries, as listed on the inside cover of each article. These are printed and mailed once a year.

Electronic copies in PDF format are made available on the day of publication by sending members an email notice with links to recent publications. Newly published papers are posted on this website on the day of publication.

Online free open-accessible copies are available in PDF format at the Florida Virtual Campus, Goethe University Library (Frankfurt, Germany), and University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Digital Commons soon after publication. Insecta Mundi is electronically archived by Portico.
