Abstract

The generic classification of North American (Canada, United States of America and Baja California, Mexico) Peritelini is here reassessed. Gironella Anderson, new genus is proposed here to accommodate Geodercodes hispidus Horn, 1894 as Gironella hispida (Horn, 1894), new combination. Aragsilus Anderson, new genus is proposed to accommodate Aragsilus truncatisetosus Anderson, new species, proposed for the species previously widely misidentified as Aragnomus griseus Horn, 1976, and Aragnomus setosus Van Dyke, 1936, now Aragsilus setosus (Van Dyke, 1936), new combination. New synonymies are here proposed in Peritelini as follows: Eucyllus Horn, 1876 is a new senior subjective synonym of Dysticheus Horn, 1876, Rhypodes Horn, 1876 (not Stäl, 1868), Rhypodillus Cockerell, 1906 and Thinoxenus Horn, 1876; Geodercodes Casey, 1888 is a new senior subjective synonym of Nemocestes Van Dyke, 1936; Paraptochus Seidlitz, 1868 is a new senior subjective synonym of Aragnomus Horn, 1876, Peritelodes Casey, 1888, Stenoptochus Casey, 1888, Orthoptochus Casey, 1888 and Anchitelus Casey, 1888. These actions reduce the number of recognized genera of Peritelini in the North American region to nine from fifteen. Peritelus sellatus Boheman, 1859 (now Paraptochus sellatus) is a new senior subjective synonym of Aragnomus griseus Horn, 1876 and Eucilinus aridus (Van Dyke, 1938) is a new senior subjective synonym of Eucyllus tinkhami Tanner, 1959. The following new combinations result from these synonymies: Eucyllus brevicollis (Horn, 1876) (Rhypodes), new combination; Eucyllus dilatatus (Horn, 1876) (Rhypodes), new combination; Eucyllus insignis (Horn, 1876) (Dysticheus), new combination; Eucyllus rotundicollis (Van Dyke, 1953) (Dysticheus), new combination; Eucyllus squalens (Horn, 1876) (Thinoxenus), new combination; Geodercodes expansus (Van Dyke, 1938) (Nemocestes), new combination; Geodercodes fragariae (Van Dyke, 1953) (Nemocestes), new combination; Geodercodes horni (Van Dyke, 1936) (Nemocestes), new combination; Geodercodes incomptus (Van Dyke, 1936) (Nemocestes), new combination; Geodercodes koebelei (Van Dyke, 1936) (Nemocestes), new combination; Geodercodes longulus (Van Dyke, 1936) (Nemocestes), new combination; Geodercodes montanus (Van Dyke, 1936) (Nemocestes), new combination; Geodercodes puncticollis (Casey, 1888) (Geoderces), new combination; Geodercodes tuberculatus (Van Dyke, 1936) (Nemocestes), new combination; Paraptochus hispidulus (Casey, 1888) (Aragnomus), new combination; Paraptochus obtectus (Casey, 1888) (Peritelodes), new combination; Paraptochus alboviridis (Van Dyke, 1936) (Anchitelus), new combination; Paraptochus squamiger (Casey, 1888) (Orthoptochus), new combination; Paraptochus vanduzeei (Van Dyke, 1935) (Stenoptochus), new combination. In addition, Thricolepis simulator Horn, 1876 is here placed as Paraptochus simulator (Horn, 1876), new combination and Eucilinus hirsutus Hatch, 1971 is here placed as Geodercodes hirsutus (Hatch, 1971), new combination. A neotype is designated for Dysticheus insignis Horn, 1876. New lectotypes are designated for Thinoxenus squalens Horn, 1876, Rhypodes dilatatus Horn, 1876, Geodercodes latipennis Casey, 1888, Geoderces incomptus Horn, 1876, Peritelinus variegatus Casey, 1888, Thricolepis inornata Horn, 1876, and Thricolepis seminuda Horn, 1894. A revised key to genera of North American Peritelini is provided.
